Overview

Transform Fragmented Knowledge into Structured Notes

NoteGen is a lightweight, cross-platform Markdown note-taking application built with Tauri and TypeScript that reimagines how you capture and organize information. Unlike conventional note apps, NoteGen separates the workflow into distinct Recording and Writing modes, allowing you to quickly capture fragmented information and then use AI to organize it into coherent, well-structured notes.

Intelligent Note Organization

The application features out-of-the-box RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) support, enabling intelligent context-aware assistance as you write. Recordings can be seamlessly organized and transferred to the writing page for deeper composition, while the writing interface allows you to insert recordings at any point. All notes are stored in native Markdown format, ensuring portability and future-proofing your knowledge base.

Free and Accessible

At just 25MB, NoteGen delivers a complete note-taking solution without ads or paywalls. The platform supports Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS, with free AI model services provided through partnerships with SiliconFlow and other providers. WebDAV sync support ensures your notes remain accessible across all your devices.

Frequently asked questions

What makes NoteGen different from other Markdown editors?

NoteGen uniquely separates recording and writing workflows, allowing quick capture of fragmented information that AI then helps organize into structured notes. It includes built-in RAG support for intelligent context-aware assistance.

Is NoteGen really free? What's the catch?

Yes, NoteGen is free and open-source under GPL-3.0 license with no ads. Free AI services are provided through partnerships with SiliconFlow and other providers, though you can configure your own AI backends.

How does the recording-to-writing workflow work?

The Recording page lets you quickly capture fragmented notes. You can then organize these recordings and transfer them to the Writing page where AI helps structure them into coherent documents. You can also insert recordings while writing.

What sync options are available?

NoteGen supports WebDAV for cross-platform synchronization. Since notes are stored in native Markdown format, you can also use any file sync service or version control system.

Are the mobile apps ready for production use?

Desktop versions (Windows, macOS, Linux) are in beta and stable. Android and iOS versions are currently in alpha stage and require self-compilation for iOS.
